NFL COVID-19 Protocols

If not vaccinated, a player must miss five days if it is close contact and ten days if it is a positive test. If vaccinated, a player does not have to miss a game as a close contact. If he tests positive, he can come back if he has been asymptomatic for at least 24 hours by one of the following options:

  1. He receives two BRL PCR test results that are either negative or that produce cycle cutoff (CT) values of 35 or greater; WHERE
  2. He receives a negative BRL PCR test result or one producing CT values of 35 or greater and a negative Mesa test result from a test performed within 24 hours of the BRL PCR test. The two tests can be performed at the same time or within 24 hours of each other; WHERE
  3. It receives two negative MESA tests 24 hours after the initial collection, but can be taken simultaneously as long as they are two new separate collections.

The previous policy required two negative tests at least 24 hours apart, but this has been significantly reduced with these new protocols.
