UPDATE: Cobb County Police shoot and kill man in hostage situation | New


UPDATE (CBS46) – The man suspected of taking another man hostage is now dead after being shot by a SWAT officer from the Cobb County Police Department.

Sgt. Wayne Delk of the CCPD said he received several calls about gunfire and a call about a hostage at an apartment complex on Old Concord Road earlier today.


The police officers who responded observed a man throwing objects from a balcony. Another man, whose wrists were tied, was with him.

When the unidentified man saw the police, he re-entered the apartment with his hostage.

The SWAT team and crisis negotiators have been called in. At one point, a SWAT officer shot the man down.

Delk says officers saw the man with a knife and a gun before the shooting.

Residents were evacuated or asked to stay inside.

The hostage was taken to Kennestone Hospital with several injuries. His exact condition is unknown, but Delk said he was “seriously injured.

Cobb County Police now say the incident at Concord Crossing Apartments is a shootout involving an officer. In addition, they say the hostage has been rescued.

ATLANTA (CBS46) – Cobb County Police are working on a hostage situation at the Concord Crossing Apartments at 2935 Old Concord Road in Smyrna.

Police said shots were fired, but no further information was provided.
