Whirlpool to pay workers $ 1,000 to get vaccinated | Saint-Louis news headlines

(CNN) – Whirlpool offers to pay workers $ 1,000 to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The new vaccine incentive, confirmed by Whirlpool to CNN, highlights how Corporate America tries to convince workers hesitant about vaccines.

The vaccine bonus comes as the Biden administration prepares an emergency rule that will force large companies, like Whirlpool, to ensure all of their staff are vaccinated or subject unvaccinated staff to weekly tests. Biden officials say companies that fail to comply could face fines of up to $ 14,000 per violation.

Whirlpool already offered employees a smaller incentive for vaccines, but increased it to $ 1,000 last week.

Chad Parks, a spokesperson for the company, said the enhanced vaccination premium would apply to workers previously vaccinated as well as newly vaccinated. He declined to say how much the previous inducement was.

“The health and safety of our employees remains our top priority,” Whirlpool said in a statement. “Throughout this pandemic, they have worked tirelessly to serve our consumers, who depend more than ever on our products to clean, cook and provide proper storage of food and medicine in their homes, and we are working to make sure that we can deliver. “

Whirlpool’s $ 1,000 vaccine incentive matches the one launched earlier this summer by Vanguard, one of the world’s largest asset managers. Vanguard’s $ 1,000 incentive applies to the company’s approximately 16,500 U.S. employees who show proof of vaccination by October 1.

A number of other companies have offered more modest incentives to get the vaccine. Kroger said vaccinated employees would receive a one-time payment of $ 100, while Bolthouse Farms offered a bonus of $ 500.
